Starting in 2011, IDP offered a series of summer camps for Deaf youth and leaders at the Montfort School for the Deaf and Deaf-Blind in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. IDP volunteers trained local Deaf leaders to lead the camp the following week. Camp activities included the instruction of math, geography, Haitian Sign Language (LSH), art, theater, swim lessons, communication skills, literacy, and community building, LSH classes were offered to the general public to increase awareness and knowledge of the local sign language. These classes were popular in attendance and a huge success! IDP has also provided support for a national Haitian Sign Language research project. The project documents the indigenous sign language that has evolved on the island in order to gain government recognition and international validity. Documenting a sign language is often the first step in order to assert language access for Deaf individuals.

India
In July of 2016, IDP partnered with Young Achievers to send a Deaf youth to Aspen Camp for the Deaf in Colorado. The youth was discovered in India by Young Achievers (YA) as a young teenager who had no language foundation whatsoever. YA took the youth under their wing and paired the student with a Deaf teacher who taught her her first language--Indian Sign Language (ISL). With this linguistic foundation finally established, the young student blossomed into the articulate young person. The student now attends a Deaf-centric school in the US and knows multiple languages, including ISL and ASL.
